We’re sure it’s fair to say that you and your significant other make the perfect team, and whilst that may be true for the majority of life’s challenges you face together, do you think the same can be said when it comes to working? We can only assume working together would provide a real test of a relationship, which is why this #ValentinesDay, we thought we’d look at some ‘work power couples’ who seem to have nailed it!

For instance, did you know the brains behind the Pfizer vaccines development are a husband and wife duo? Dr. Sahin and his wife Dr. Özlem Türeci founded their company BioNTech in 2008, and in 2018 agreed to develop a flu vaccine with Pfizer. Who would have thought this arrangement would turn into what it did come 2020. 

“Trust and personal relationships are so important in such a business” stated Dr. Sahin whilst talking with the New York Times about the pairs working relationship, something we feel is certainly transferable to building a successful business.

This ethos apparently rings true with Jo Malone and her brand too. Talking to Country Living in 2017, Jo Malone spoke of her husband Gary Willcox:

“He’s the business brain. There would be no Jo Malone or Jo Loves without him…A lot of people look at the success of this business as just me, what they don’t see is Gary was the physical backbone to everything. He was the one who got in the van and drove round the country delivering the oils wherever they needed to be. He was the one that found the factories and sat in the meetings while I said ‘that’s not how you do it, it doesn’t smell right’. Gary was the one who found the first shop”. 

Our marketing team was lucky enough to attend a talk hosted by Jo a few years back, and we can confirm her gratitude when she says she owes a lot to her husband’s support and assistance over the years in making her brand what it is today.

Now sadly our marketing team have never attended a talk hosted by Will Smith & Jada Pinkett Smith (as much as we wish we could) but we can vouch that the pair are worthy of a mention here too.

Owning shares in multiple businesses together, including multimedia cross-platform venture Westbrook Inc that the pair founded together. Smith stated in a 2018 interview for Tidal’s Rap Radar Podcast:

“We don’t even say we’re married anymore. We refer to ourselves as life partners”. Partners in business, partners in life – we like that. 

Speaking of Tidal, Beyonce has large shares in the music streaming service owned by husband Jay-Z and as well as this, when it comes to working together directly, their joint “On the Run II Tour” grossed $253.5 million, earning an average of $5.28 million per concert. That’s a pretty impressive earning partnership if you ask us.
