EDI Hiring

EDI Hiring.

Recruitment agencies have a responsibility to promote, champion and, above all, embed inclusivity. By ensuring that EDI hiring practices are free from bias and accessible to all, from designing non-biased job adverts to partnering with charities and advocacy groups, recruitment agencies can play a pivotal role in opening doors for individuals who face employment barriers.

At The Recruitment Co. we are making strides in advocating for EDI hiring as a means of empowering diverse talent to find meaningful work, and supporting businesses to thrive with varied perspectives in their workforce.

Non-Bias Adverts and Screening Processes

EDI hiring begins with how job opportunities are presented to candidates.

We create non-biased job adverts – thoughtfully crafted to appeal to all candidates, using inclusive language and avoiding gendered or culturally specific terms. Every one of our job listings is reviewed to ensure it promotes equal opportunity, focusing solely on the skills and values relevant to the role. This helps candidates from diverse backgrounds feel encouraged to apply and ensures that roles attract talent based on merit, not stereotypes.

Our unbiased screening process removes personal identifiers and applies structured interview techniques so we can assess candidates on objective factors. This ensures every candidate has a fair chance to succeed, regardless of their background, gender, age, or abilities.

Collaborating with Purpose-Driven Organisations

An inclusive hiring strategy requires going beyond traditional recruitment methods.

We have taken significant steps to bridge the gap between candidates and employers by partnering with purpose-driven organisations and charities. We have launched our Purposeful Employer Network (PEN), whereby we collaborate with organisations that support individuals facing barriers to employment and facilitate placements specifically aimed at diverse talent.

The PEN is a unique initiative that allows business leaders and decision-makers to make a meaningful difference in their hiring practices. The PEN is a community of employers who have committed to providing sustainable job opportunities for individuals who may need additional support in entering the workforce. By joining the network, businesses not only support equal opportunities but also gain access to a fresh talent pool of enthusiastic and skilled candidates.

As a PEN member, businesses can enhance their workforce by incorporating diverse perspectives and experiences, ultimately driving innovation and productivity. This initiative is a win-win: businesses play an active role in promoting inclusivity while accessing talent that is often overlooked.

To date we have placed 298 candidates through PEN, which equates to almost £6 million in social impact. This demonstrates how we are positively impacting lives whilst offering businesses access to an eager, untapped talent pool.

Supporting Candidates Beyond Placement

The journey to inclusivity doesn’t end with a job placement; supporting candidates throughout their employment is equally essential. We ensure that candidates not only find a job but also a workplace where they feel valued and can bring their authentic selves.

By carefully matching candidates to roles that align with their values and career goals, we empower individuals to find long-term, meaningful employment that contributes to personal and professional growth.

Our commitment extends to the client. We help companies establish environments that support equal opportunity and cultivate a culture of belonging. We provide guidance on creating inclusive spaces, onboarding processes, and employee support, that create a truly inclusive workforce.

Leading by Example: Our EDI Commitment

We recognise the power of a diverse workforce and we’re dedicated to creating positive change.

As a member of the Employers Network for Equality & Inclusion (ENEI), we are committed to implementing strategies that exceed legal obligations for equality, diversity, and inclusion. By actively working to promote inclusive hiring beyond our own walls, we strive to inspire our businesses partners on sustainable and fair hiring practices.

We have developed an action plan to combat discrimination and foster a more inclusive workforce for all. This includes efforts to educate clients on the value of diversity and to implement tailored EDI solutions that make their workplaces more accessible and appealing.
