About the Role:
We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Project Building Services Engineer (Electrical) to join our team for a 6-month contract in Manchester. In this role, you will be working on behalf of the Directorate of Estates & Facilities, providing professional electrical building services engineering design and project management services for construction projects that include planned maintenance, alterations, refurbishments, and new works. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the successful delivery of projects, adhering to client requirements, legal regulations, and the University’s objectives.
Key Responsibilities, Accountabilities, and Duties:

  • Operational:
    1. Effectively manage project delivery, meeting client, Estates Directorate, and University expectations.
    2. Provide professional advice on projects from inception to completion, ensuring alignment with client needs.
    3. Develop cost-effective electrical design solutions and documentation for construction projects.
    4. Support contract administration and oversee electrical work on-site.
    5. Provide technical advice on project planning, programming, and procurement strategy.
    6. Manage design teams, monitoring staff productivity, and optimizing resources.
    7. Offer initial budgetary advice and manage project budgets in compliance with financial regulations.
    8. Promote a culture of positive health and safety management within project activities.
    9. Manage the CDM process to ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
    10. Oversee Health & Safety requirements and ensure legal compliance.
    11. Proactively seek process improvements for efficient and customer-focused service delivery.
  • Development: 12. Contribute to the implementation of the Projects team strategy and identify opportunities for improvement.
    1. Establish positive relationships with colleagues, suppliers, and associates to enhance project services.
    2. Support a continuous improvement ethos within the team.
    3. Participate in learning, training, and personal development activities.
  • General: 16. Promote environmental sustainability in all tasks.
    1. Adhere to University policies, including Health & Safety, Equality Diversity and Inclusion, and Information Governance.

Essential Attributes and Requirements:

  • Possess a professional qualification, preferably as a registered Member with the Engineering Council (IEEE, IEC, or IET) at CEng/IEng or equivalent.
  • Significant post-qualification experience in electrical building services engineering for new build and refurbishment projects.
  • Knowledge of construction and engineering projects under the JCT form of contract.
  • Experience in leading and managing design teams for effective project delivery.
  • Working knowledge of relevant regulations, legislation, and contractual practices.
  • Familiarity with environmental sustainability issues.
  • IT literate with proficiency in standard office applications and industry-relevant software.
  • Ability to produce high-quality reports and deliver clear presentations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to the University’s strategic goals and values.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize workload.
  • Demonstrable commitment to staying updated on construction industry and higher education sector knowledge.
