Senior Library Assistant

Salary: £13.63 Saturday:£20.25

Hours: 21.4 hours per week (21 hours 24 minutes)

About the Role

We are currently seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Library Assistant to join the Library Services team based within the Stock Department at Ballymena Regional Administrative Centre.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with library experience who is passionate about reading, learning, customer service and supporting local communities. The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting library operations, assisting customers, and helping to ensure the delivery of a high-quality library service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of library services and resources.
  • Assist with the day-to-day management and supervision of library activities.
  • Provide excellent customer service to a wide range of library users.
  • Support and guide library staff as required.
  • Assist customers in accessing library resources in a variety of formats.
  • Use library ICT systems and applications effectively.
  • Promote books, reading, learning opportunities and library services.
  • Contribute to achieving service objectives and maintaining high service standards.

Essential Criteria

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must have:

  • A minimum of 2 GCE A Levels (or equivalent/higher qualification) plus a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a public, academic or special library within the last 5 years.

OR

  • A minimum of 5 years’ library experience within the last 8 years.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of current affairs, books and reading.
  • Knowledge of library resources across a range of formats.
  • Knowledge of ICT applications within a library environment.
  • Ability to assist with leading and managing a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong customer care and problem-solving skills.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to work mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends as required.
  • Ability to work at the base location and other service points when required.
  • No criminal record which would prevent working with children or vulnerable adults.

Working Pattern

Week 1

  • Monday: 9:00am – 5:00pm (48-minute break)
  • Tuesday: 9:00am – 5:00pm (48-minute break)
  • Wednesday: 9:00am – 5:00pm (48-minute break)

Total: 21.4 hours per week
